(Ok, here comes another political post, just so you know. But I want to say this. I think God is relevant to all of life. Making connections about politics is pretty relevant, so bear with me. One of these days I’ll post about something else. Maybe.)

This week we’ve seen the possibility of a moderate option for our country. I was NOT looking forward to a civil war. It’s still a long haul to November, but maybe God has something up his sleeve. Maybe he’s testing our hearts. Maybe he’s revealing our hearts. Maybe he’s calling us to act like adults. You know, to make sense. There’s so much sensationalism, it’s hard to find the sense.

David French recently wrote an article entitled “When a $60 Trillion Dream Dies: How Polarization Promulgates a Cycle of Hope and Hate.” In it, he made the point that not one of Bernie’s revolutionary ideas would make it through Congress. And that Trump’s chief legislative accomplishment has been a standard, establishment Republican tax cut.

All the antics for that?

I keep listening for the voices of reason. I do believe there are very wise people amongst our leaders…and we have many, many leaders at all levels. We just need to cut the noise so we can hear them better. Compared to the theatrics and outrageous claims we hear daily, those voices are probably a bit boring, but I would welcome a little boredom in our country right now.

I also believe that wisdom and reason are important to God. Take a listen to this.

“Learn to do right; seek justice.
    Defend the oppressed.
Take up the cause of the fatherless;
    plead the case of the widow.
“Come now, let us settle the matter,”
    says the Lord.
“Though your sins are like scarlet,
    they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red as crimson,
    they shall be like wool.
If you are willing and obedient,
    you will eat the good things of the land…”
(Isaiah 1:17-19)

In the swirling craziness of our days, may we get better and better at hearing the voices of wisdom and reason.
