“A Pocketful of Seeds” is a collection of daily inspirations for making a difference in your world. This page, “A Pocketful of Songs,” is a collection of topical devotions for the ups and downs in your life.

Scroll through the alphabetical listing to find a topic on your needs and/or joys of this day. Click on the link and listen to the song. Most of the music is of a spiritual nature but some is secular. I tried to capture the topic well, from Rare Earth’s “I Just Want to Celebrate” or Styx’s “Show Me the Way” to Chris Rice’s “Untitled Hymn” or Nicole C. Mullen’s “Redeemer.” There’s even some Vivaldi thrown in!

I’ve provided links for the music without embedding the videos into my website. I don’t want to infringe on anyone’s copyrights. My intent is to share their beautiful and inspiring music in the most honoring way possible.

(Some of the songs are preceded by ads, but there’s a “skip ad” feature.)

And lest there be any confusion, the topics are all written from the Biblical point of view. For example, the entry on “Victory” is written from the Christian version of victory, which might be different from the perspective of another religion or no religion at all.

May God use the music, scriptures, and other quotes to meet with you and bless you today. ~Debbie

ACCEPTANCE          “It Is Well With My Soul” Matt Redman https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoRecglINIw

“Father, if Thou art willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, But Thine be done.” (Luke 22:42)

“When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll; whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say, It is well, it is well with my soul.”
Horatio Spafford

This hymn of acceptance was written by Horatio Spafford after traumatic events in his life—the death of his two-year-old son, the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 (which ruined him financially), and the deaths of his daughters in a shipwreck. (He had planned to travel to Europe with his family, but sent them ahead while he was delayed on business. While crossing the Atlantic, the ship sank after colliding with another vessel, and all four of Spafford’s daughters died. As Spafford traveled to meet his grieving wife, he wrote the words above.)

The Spaffords later had three more children, one of whom died of scarlet fever. Devastated but trusting, the Spaffords set sail for Ottoman-Turkish Palestine in 1881. They settled in Jerusalem and helped found a group called the American Colony, which engaged in philanthropic work among the people regardless of their religious affiliation and without proselytizing motives—thereby gaining the trust of the local Muslim, Jewish, and Christian communities, particularly during the devastations of World War I.
