A troll is “a person who starts quarrels or upsets people on the Internet to distract and sow discord by posting inflammatory and digressive messages in an online community…whether for the troll’s amusement or a specific gain.”
Trolls seem to be everywhere. Have we lost our dignity? Have
we lost our MINDS?
“Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” Col.
4:6
“…speaking the truth in love, we will
grow to become in every respect the
mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.” Eph 4:15
“Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.” 1 Cor. 13:6
I believe God calls us to SPEAK TRUTH, but in love, just like he calls us to BE ANGRY, but without sin.
I have to admit that I have troll-ish thoughts sometimes, but God is relentless in reminding me of the better way. Jesus himself got super angry and “overturned the moneychangers’ tables” in one particular instance, but that wasn’t sin. It was the right thing to do.
In these bizarre times of hateful speech, let’s go high. I’m not advocating for sticking one’s head in the sand. In fact, the opposite. SPEAK UP. SPEAK WELL. “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” Harsh and inflammatory words lead all right, but in the wrong direction. Why sink to that low when we can be far more effective with a little maturity?
