Winston Churchill once said, “All the great things are simple and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom, justice, honor, duty, mercy, hope.”

This year, I want to focus on a word a week. Today I’m thinking of honor. It implies honesty, fairness, and integrity. It’s too important to disregard.

H.L. Mencken once said, “Honor is simply the morality of superior men.”

A year ago today, a very dishonorable thing happened under the mantra of “make America great again.” I guess the former president and I just have different definitions of the word “great.” Is greatness possible without honor, honesty, fairness and integrity?

Maybe we should go with “make America honorable again.” That changes everything.

Paul, in the Bible, once said, “Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.” Eph. 6:14-15
