The other day I heard this cover of Michael Jackson’s “Heal the World.” It’s pretty. Take a listen. Remember the lyrics?

“Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me
And the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make a better place for you and for me.”

Quite appropriate right about now. But why are healing and caring so ridiculously hard for the world to do? Why is there so much pain and suffering? (The age-old question.) I could muse on that for pages and get pretty theological about it, but basically, even though I’m no physician, I can be a healer…and so can you.

We have some choice. We can wait this virus thing out and eat too many Reese’s Peanut Butter cups along the way. We can get mad. We can check the stock market too often. We can Zoom. We can cope. We can work. We can pray.

But healing the world takes some intentionality. And btw, I’m not talking about speaking before the UN. I’m talking about speaking words of peace into one’s home. It might be easier to speak before the UN at this point. Everyone’s a bit testy.

Anyway, you get my point. As I write this, I’m asking God to show me how to be a healer today, in my own little corner of the world.
