LEANING TOWARD THE LIGHT

I was having my morning coffee the other day and noticed the succulents in these cute rainboots. (See the photo.) I love this little art piece (thank you, Linda M!), but I hadn’t ever realized how much those plants strain toward the sunshine. So I started wondering…do I strain toward the light? How many of us really do? Do we settle for “good enough” or do we lean in hard? And what does that even mean, exactly?

Here’s what I’ve been thinking. Take a dark situation, like deep concern for a friend or family member, for example. What would success look like in that situation? Real, whole, complete victory. The “sunshine” goal. I started visualizing that kind of victory for some people in my life. And without getting too heavy or theological about it, those little succulents just serve as a reminder for me to lean toward the light for them…and for myself.

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear?” Psalm 27:1
