Do you ever just want to turn off the news? We’re SO inundated with bad stuff.
It can make us numb.
But do one or two issues rise to the top for you? One strategy can be to CHOOSE them. Focus on them. Act on them. (I’ve chosen one local and one global.)
This doesn’t keep bad news at bay, but it keeps us from being useless. In fact, it makes us part of the solution. And it can be relatively easy, like sponsoring a child. The gendercide of baby girls in China and India is epidemic. A little Indian girl dies from gender discrimination every four minutes. (“Half the Sky” by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn)
As Susan Sontag said, “Do stuff. Be clenched, curious. Not waiting for inspiration’s shove or society’s kiss on your forehead. Pay attention.”
