The best tweet I’ve read about the Will Smith/Chris Rock thing is this: “Christian blogs/websites, please don’t write articles about Will Smith and Chris Rock. Please don’t do it.”
Ha!
We all have our opinions, from citing Will Smith’s feelings of guilt over not protecting his mother…to some women saying they don’t want men’s protection anyway, because they can take care of themselves.
And then he apologized and called himself a work in progress. Aren’t we all?
Carl Rogers once said, “The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”
I respect apologies. They speak of change, a desire to do better, humility, strength…as opposed to faux strength…incessant, prideful and unapologetic bad behavior. The scriptures turn faux strength upside down. “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.” (James 4:10)
Humility is strength.
An apology is a ray of hope in our world of outrageously unapologetic bad behavior. At least it’s a start.
