There was this guy who was in a hurry, so he asked God for a close-in parking space as he pulled into the store parking lot. All of a sudden, someone pulled out of the space directly in front of him, so he said, “Never mind God. I found one.”
Sometimes that guy could be me. I’m just not as immersed in the God realm as I long to be. My spiritual eyes are too cloudy. God is at work all around me and too often, I just don’t see it.
But…I want improved vision for “God sightings.” Some might call them coincidences, but like Mother Teresa (or maybe William Temple) once said, “When I pray, coincidences happen, and when I don’t, they don’t.”
Don’t get me wrong, I believe, with every fiber of my being! Jesus said in John 18:36, “My kingdom is not of this realm” so I just want to catch MORE of the meaning and nuance in life. I want the messages to make me better and stronger and more aware of the infinite.
And just so you know, I’m not floating away on some ethereal cloud. I’m not on drugs. I’m not losing my mind (that I know of–ha!). I just want better vision.
We live in a period of relativism and nihilism (“nothingness”), but what an opportunity to highlight the opposite, i.e., something-ness. Extreme somethingness even. What if everything is dripping with meaning and we just need the eyes to see it?
God said to ask…
