“Bash On Regardless” is a road sign sometimes seen in India. It means “don’t-even-think-about-stopping-or-yielding-right-here.” If you were to stop right there, you would likely get hit by a bus or at best a herd of brahma bulls. Press on. Don’t yield. Get ‘er done.
My son, who’s spent many months in India, will encourage me with those words when I’m down. “Well Mom, just bash on regardless.” I smile, and bash on.
I’m a big fan of the balanced life and needed rest, but sometimes we just need to bash on,
particularly when…
…we’re concerned about our mess-ups.
…we’re concerned about saying something wrong.
…we’re concerned about being stuck.
…we’re concerned about the hell we’re going through.
The woman caught in adultery had royally messed up her life, but Jesus told her he didn’t condemn her and to go and sin no more. To do the right thing. To bash on regardless.
I’m sometimes concerned about saying the wrong thing to a black friend or grieving parent, but I need to let love be my guide rather than fear. To take the chance that love will win, even if my words come out wrong. To bash on regardless.
About being stuck, whether that be in regret, anger, shame, bad habits, depression, hurt, or any of our other personal prisons, we need to remember that the longest journey begins with a single step. We need to gather the courage to take that one step. To bash on regardless.
And Winston Churchill said, “If you’re going through hell, keep going.” You got it—bash on.
Need to do any bashing on today?
