The older I get, the grayer I get, and I’m not just talking about my hair (ha!). It’s more about my understanding of things. I used to give too much credibility to my own understanding of God, but it was way too small. For example, God’s truth is that mercy triumphs over judgment and that he himself is love itself.

My focus has shifted away from trying to do God’s job for him to just letting him love me and you know, other people. It’s changed everything.

It has set me free.  

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6 

​Brian McLaren once said that “there’s a difference between trusting God and trusting my understanding of God.” Trusting that God is love gets me through these days of wondering if evil might win after all. Evil is not going to win. Love will win, because God will win.
