It’s time to arm ourselves, but not with guns or other instruments of death. Instead, we need to arm ourselves with instruments of life, the full armor of God. “The belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, our feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” From Ephesians 6:10-18
I want to think through these instruments over the next few weeks. Today, truth. Do I have the belt of truth buckled around my waist? Is truth paramount or have I let it slowly drift into “whatever is expedient?” Do I fact check everything before I put it out there? Am I willing to let truth rule even if I don’t like it?
I’ve recently come across two posts about USAID’s “dirty deeds.” You’ve probably seen them. Turns out both are untrue. We need to be hyper-vigilant with our belts of truth. Gullible people, precious souls, are being used to peddle lies. If we knowingly share a post that is untrue, we are complicit. If we unknowingly share a post that is untrue, we are without excuse. These days, we must verify everything first.
Here’s a little piece of truth. “Evangelical and other Christian charities have not been spared these (DOGE) cuts. Among the organizations that lost funding are such Christian behemoths as World Vision, International Justice Mission, Samaritan’s Purse, and Catholic Relief Services.” Time 2/5/2025. Catholic Relief Services was the largest nonprofit USAID grantee in 2024. I quadruple checked this before I wrote it.
If we want to oppose something, let’s do it with truth. If we want to support something, let’s do it with truth.
Otherwise, we are pawns.
