Don’t you sometimes wish you had a magic button to push on your phone to make bad things go away? Terrible news, a hurtful comment, a dreaded decision. There’s a lot of bad out there in the world—crime, mean-spiritedness, evil schemes. There are seven things God hates, according to Proverbs 6:16-19… haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.

The pain is real…and current. Push the button. Gone.

Right.

But there IS this.

“One loving gesture is practically divine. We have to do small things and believe a big difference is coming. Each small gesture can lead to liberation. The bravest thing we can do in this world is not cling to old ideas or fear of judgment, but step out and just do something for love’s sake. There is no secret formula to experiencing the sacred in our lives. It just takes practice and practicality.” ~ Becca Stevens in her book, Practically Divine

I love that.

St. Francis of Assisi said it this way. “The best criticism of the bad is the practice of the better.”
Romans 12:21 says it this way. “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”

Are these just nice thoughts, magical thinking, or powerful truths? I guess there’s only one way to find out.
