In today’s news, “Coloradans say politics is state’s top problem–and they feel powerless to do anything.”

Powerlessness. I get it. Sometimes it seems like nothing can be done to change things, whether in politics or just…life.

But (and you knew there would be a “but” :), sometimes we stop short of deep understanding. We give up too easily. We get apathetic and call it powerlessness.

But actually, we just might have power we didn’t know we had.

I’m seeing this firsthand. In the fight for our country, we can unite with like-minded people. (As a friend says, PLU. People Like Us.) We can add to our numbers. I’m in a group that has grown exponentially within a short period of time. We can support candidates in the mid-terms, even if we’ve never been “political” before. This is the soul of a nation I’m talking about, which goes beyond politics to one’s philosophical and spiritual beliefs. We can participate in actions and talk to people over coffee…and things might begin to change. We just have to work hard. Maybe harder than we’ve ever worked before.

But the victory is in the struggle. As we fight, we will further define ourselves, chiseling ourselves to be better souls. We won’t stop at “getting back on track.” Our vision is bigger. Ultimately, faith without works is dead. See James 2:14-26.

But faith WITH works is alive.

I hope we can stop feeling powerless. Every step matters…and just might change the world.
