I just found out that the word Christian is only used three times in the New Testament. There’s no mention of the word Evangelical at all. But the word disciple occurs over 250 times.
A disciple is a follower.
“Trust God from the bottom of your heart;
don’t try to figure out everything on your own.
Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go;
he’s the one who will keep you on track.” Prov. 3:5-6 The Message
Once I was on a treacherous hike and I started getting scared. The person I was with said, “Debbie, just tuck in right here behind me. Stay close.”
It worked.
Maybe there’s a reason Jesus didn’t use terminology like “become a Christian.” He said follow me. (Tuck in right here behind me. Stay close.)
That’s what changes us.
